Patrick Daniel "Dan" McCarney was the head football coach at Iowa State University from 1995-2006. He was the longest tenured head coach in the Big 12 Conference when he stepped down November 8, 2006. He led the Cyclones to five bowl games, more than any other Iowa State coach in history. Coach McCarney molded the Cyclones into a respectable, mid-level Big 12 football team, despite having the smallest football budget in the Big 12. On February 6, 2007, McCarney accepted a position as the Defensive Line Coach and Assistant Head Coach at the University of South Florida. On February 8, 2008, McCarney accepted the same position at the University of Florida.
