Edward Thomas "Ed" Schafer , is the 29th United States Secretary of Agriculture. He was nominated by President Bush on October 31, 2007 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 28, 2008. Before taking up his current post, Secretary Schafer served as the Governor of North Dakota from 1992 to 2000.
