Birch Evans Bayh III is an American politician who has served as the junior U.S. Senator from Indiana since 1999 and a former Governor of Indiana. He is a member of the Democratic Party and, until December 15, 2006, was considered a likely Democratic candidate for the 2008 presidential election when he briefly filed with the FEC. Early in 2007 he endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton and has since made numerous appearances alongside Sen. Clinton during her campaign stops in Indiana, including her first stop in Terre Haute, where they both toured the downtown area.
