Mary Loretta Landrieu is the Senior Democratic United States senator from the state of Louisiana, as well as the first, and as of 2008, only woman from that state to be elected to the Senate. She is the daughter of former New Orleans mayor Moon Landrieu and the sister of current Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu. By national standards, Landrieu is one of the more conservative Democrats in the U.S. Senate. She is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. She is up for re-election in 2008 in what is expected to be a tight race.
