“In the end we went to the railroad station, as he suddenly decided he would have to go. We were just in time to see the last lights of the train disappearing. Once again Hoffmann left the house too late, and so I couldn't even say good-by to him. Perhaps I am taking too dark a view, I hope I am, but he is not coming again for another two weeks.”
Eva Braun
“A railroad is like a lie you have to keep building it to make it stand.”
Mark Twain
“Benefit of clergy: Half-rate on the railroad”
“The Underground Railroad refers to a loosely organized network of free blacks, slaves, whites, and sometimes Native Americans, who worked together to help enslaved people find freedom. This network was more organized in some places than others. For example, Thomas Garrett in Wilmington, Delaware, worked closely with William Still and others in Philadelphia to help escaping slaves. Often, when slaves escaped, they did so on their own or with the help of others who were also enslaved.”
Carol Lloyd
“It is part of the railroad business. But it is a setback. We are usually running seven days a week out of Fort Bragg now.”
Wendy Squires
