“The Antarctic Mosaic shows a lot of very subtle changes in the slope of the terrain that you cannot see from the ground. These subtle variations are important because they tell us the direction the ice is flowing now and they indicate where it has gone in the past. The surface roughness also tells us about the bed underneath the ice and whether the ice is sliding over the bed or frozen to it.”
Robert Bindschadler
“We have been able to watch a variety of terrain and undertake review of a whole variety of imagery and talk to an awful lot of people over time, ... Factually, those are the places right now we have been led to pay very close attention to.”
Tommy Franks
“The local terrain has a lot to do with this.”
Kurt Gurley
“There's high speed, it's good terrain and there are some technical turns in there for sure.”
Bode Miller
“Given the species involved and the rough terrain, this would require sophisticated hunting tactics, (and) knowledge of animal behavior, in particular migration routes and flight behavior, and group cooperation.”
Daniel Adler
“It's just real quiet out here. It's got a little roll to the terrain and trees.”
Mike Anderson
“It's tough. There's a lot of terrain, it's steep, it's icy. This is what you want. It makes you wake up and charge.”
